We would like to say huge congratulations to the five members of SDC who completed the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge on 23rd June 2018 in 11 hours, 14 minutes, and 14 seconds.
“We’ve done the challenge, which was to do it in less than 12 hours”, says a tired but elated team member, Molly.
Watch them, as the team meander through the highs and lows of the stunning Yorkshire countryside, squeezing through narrow stiles, following brooks, passing under viaducts and marvelling at the spectacular views from the top of Yorkshire. All this in glorious sunshine, good spirits and cooled by an occasional much needed summer breeze.
The 24-mile walk was gruelling at times, and some team members were close to tears approaching the second peak. However, team morale stayed high throughout the day and their fantastic sense of humour never wavered. This super little close-knit group supported and pulled one another through every blister popping step of the way, especially when the going got tough.
“I’m just glad it’s not the Four Peaks”, jokes Tim, as he savours his second well-earned beer of the day!
It’s fair to say that bodies are aching but the sense of achievement and pride is immense.
The team, Tim Walker, Molly Green, Lee Humphries, Chris Davis and Steve Bilton, together with Molly’s friends Lisa Riley and Dean Read, took up the challenge for two very worthy causes. They have been fundraising for SDC’s two chosen charities – Derbyshire Mind and Help for Heroes.
In the process, so far they have managed to raise a whopping £1,105.00, but the final figure will be kindly matched by SDC at the end of the year, after a number of other charity events, which will be hosted by the company. They have already done two Bake Offs, and we are only half way through the year. They are unstoppable!
